Vaughan home invasion suspects involved in fiery crash: police

Must read

A suspect believed to be involved in a home invasion in Vaughan early Wednesday morning is now in custody after crashing a pickup truck moments after fleeing the scene, York Regional Police say.

Officers were called to a home in the area of Pine Valley Drive and Teston Road at around 4:15 a.m. for reports of a home invasion. Prior to the arrival of officers, police said, at least three suspects fled the area in the vehicle they arrived in, a Hyundai pickup truck. At least one other suspect drove away in a vehicle stolen from the residence, Insp. Richard Gaudet told reporters at the scene on Wednesday.

A short time later, the Hyundai pickup truck was involved in a serious, single-vehicle crash near Teston Road and Cityview Boulevard. The driver, a male youth, suffered serious, non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment. Police allege that two other occupants from that truck fled the area on foot and members of the K9 unit were called in to locate them.

Police have not yet been able to locate the outstanding suspects.

The driver of the truck, who suffered a serious leg injury, is facing charges in connection with the incident, police added.

Gaudet was not able to provide the make and model of the stolen vehicle.

“None of the residents that were victims of this home invasion were injured,” Gaudet noted.

He said that police are limited with the information they can provide as the investigation is “still in the very early stages.”
