Three suspects, including a 17-year-old boy, are facing more than 70 charges combined after at least nine high-end vehicles were stolen in Hamilton and its neighbouring areas.

The investigation, dubbed Project Flintstone, launched last August, when Hamilton police began investigating a group allegedly stealing luxury vehicles, primarily Lexus models.

A couple of months later, on Oct. 8, police executed a pair of search warrants: one at a home in Hamilton and another at an apartment building in the city’s east end.

Investigators also searched several vehicles they say are linked to the “criminal operation.”

Following the search warrants, police say they recovered items of evidentiary value, including “sophisticated” electronics used to bypass vehicles security systems.

In security footage released by police, one suspect dressed in all dark clothes can be seen approaching a black SUV in someone’s driveway attempting to jimmy the back passenger door open.

Three suspects from Hamilton have been charged: a 17-year-old boy, 18-year-old Waleed Khan, and a 22-year-old man, whom they did not identify.

Authorities say the youth is facing more than 40 offences, including 12 counts of failure to comply with release orders.

Khan, meanwhile,is facing more than 30 motor theft-related offences.

The charges have not been tested in court.

Police say the charges are lined to nine stolen vehicles in Hamilton and St. Thomas, Ont., but investigators believe there may have been more thefts.

None of the vehicles have been recovered yet.

Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact them or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
