Charges have been laid against a 31-year-old father who police allege drove at students in a sports field at an Oshawa, Ont. high school after learning his child was involved in an altercation with classmates.

Police said the incident occurred at around 3:40 p.m. on Sept. 19 at G.L. Roberts Collegiate Vocational Institute, located near Cedar Street and Phillip Murray Avenue.

According to police, a man was seen driving dangerously through the parking lot and sports field of the high school before driving at students in the area.

The driver, police allege, then fled along an adjacent waterfront trail.

Officers attended the scene and debris from the vehicle was found nearby, investigators said.

“The driver was identified as the parent of a student at the school, who had driven through the property after learning their child had been involved in an altercation with other students at the school,” Durham police said in a news release issued Tuesday.

“Officers attended the suspect’s residence and took him into custody without incident.”

He has been charged with dangerous operation of a conveyance and assault with a weapon, police said.
