A 33-year-old man is facing an attempted murder charge after police say he struck two people with his vehicle following an argument in a North York parking lot Thursday night.
Officers say they were called to the area of Don Mills Road and Gateway Boulevard in Flemingdon Park for reports of a collision at approximately 10:20 p.m.
When emergency crews arrived, police told CP24 they found one person with serious injuries, who was later transported to a trauma centre. A second person sustained minor injuries.
The driver was arrested at the scene.
In a news release, police said that the suspect and one of the victims were involved in an argument prior to the collision.
At that point, they said, the suspect got into his car and struck the other man with his vehicle.
“Upon reversing his car, he struck a second man,” police said.
The victims are both men in their 50s and 20s, police said. It’s unclear which victim sustained serious injuries.
The driver, who police have identified as Markham resident Edris Ghulami, has been charged with attempted murder, two counts of assault with a weapon, mischief over $5,000, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm, and uttering threats.
It’s unclear if the victims and suspect are known to each other.
Ghulami is set to appear in a Toronto courtroom on Thursday.
