Seven men from Toronto are now in custody following an “complex and lengthy” investigation into a deadly home invasion in Mississauga in 2024, Peel police say.
The incident happened in the early morning hours of Oct. 1, 2024. Police said officers were called to a residence in the area of Central Parkway West and Confederation Parkway at around 3:40 a.m. for reports of shots fired.
Police allege that four masked individuals entered a home in the area, confronted the occupants, and demanded money and valuables.
“During the confrontation, one of the homeowners, 55-year-old Ruo Zhou Wei, was shot and later died of his injuries in the hospital,” police said in a news released issued Monday.
The suspects fled in a white Volkswagen Atlas, police said.
After canvassing across more than 80 kilometres, ordering judicial authorizations, and poring over forensic analysis, investigators said they ultimately identified seven suspects in the case.
Three men, identified as Sonam Wangchuk, 25, Muhammad Rahimullah, 21, and Tenzin Lama, 21, have all been charged with second-degree murder and attempted murder using a firearm.
Kang Lu, 69, Kwok Chik, 65, and Xi Chen, 64, have been charged with manslaughter.
A seventh suspect, identified as Tenzin Jungney, 21, faces several firearm-related charged in connection with the case, police said.
None of the charges have been tested in court.
“These crimes cause profound and lasting trauma for families and undermine our community’s sense of safety. Every resident deserves to feel secure in their home,” Dep. Chief Nick Milinovich said in a written statement.
“This investigation reflects the dedication of our officers and the critical support of our government partners in ensuring investigations like this are properly resourced and those responsible for horrific crimes are held accountable.”
