37-year-old Toronto man dead after broken-down vehicle struck by fuel tanker on Hwy. 407

A 37-year-old Toronto man is dead after his vehicle was struck by a fuel tanker truck on Highway 407 in Markham.

The Ontario Provincial Police say the collision happened around 1:40 p.m. Saturday in the westbound lanes of Highway 407 near Leslie Street.

Investigators say the passenger vehicle had “broken down” in a live lane when it was hit by the tanker truck.

The driver of the passenger vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene.

No other injuries were reported.

All northbound and southbound ramps from Highway 404 to the westbound lanes of Highway 407 were closed for the investigation, with assistance from OPP Technical Collision Investigators and a reconstructionist.

The investigation is ongoing.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to contact the OPP. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers.
