Vancouver police say a three-year manhunt that spanned 14 countries has ended after the international fugitive was arrested in Oman and returned to Canada to face gun and drug-trafficking charges.
Cody Casey was extradited back to Canada last week after he was arrested by the Royal Oman Police in October, the Vancouver Police Department says.
Investigators believe Casey cut off his ankle bracelet and fled Canada while out on bail in 2022. At the time, he was just weeks away from going to trial on 17 charges, including for allegedly producing and trafficking fentanyl.Casey was named the third-most wanted person in Canada under the Bolo Program, which partners with local police and Crime Stoppers organizations across the country. The program announced a $100,000 reward for information leading to Casey’s arrest last April.
“This was a complex, multi-jurisdictional investigation that required extraordinary collaboration and perseverance,” Insp. Phil Heard, commanding officer for the Vancouver police organized crime section, said in a statement Friday.
Casey returned to Vancouver on April 24 following a six-month extradition process and remains police custody, according to the department.
“We are grateful to our partners across Canada and abroad, including the RCMP, the Bolo Program, and the Royal Oman Police, for their unwavering support in bringing Cody Casey back to face justice,” Heard said.
The RCMP’s director general for international special services says the agency collaborated with Vancouver police and authorities around the world to capture Casey and to ensure there is “no safe haven for those trying to evade the law.”
