Coffee prices rising for Canadians at Tim Hortons, and grocery stores

Must read

Canada’s iconic coffee chain is charging more for the drink, reflecting a wider trend of jittery coffee prices.

Tim Hortons recently hiked coffee prices by an average of 10 cents per cup due to rising operational costs. A small coffee now costs around $1.33, a medium $1.57, and a large $1.71.

Coffee bean prices have surged due to unfavorable weather conditions in major coffee-producing countries like Brazil. This global market volatility has led to higher prices for coffee beans.

The Canada-US trade dispute has resulted in tariffs on imported coffee, contributing to the price increase. These tariffs, initially introduced as retaliatory measures, add to the cost of coffee for Canadian consumers.

According to Statistics Canada, coffee prices at grocery stores rose by 27.9% in August 2025 compared to the previous year. Ground coffee prices increased by 35.2%, while instant coffee prices rose by 19.7%.

The rising costs are affecting not just consumers but also the coffee industry as a whole. Manufacturers’ costs for coffee and tea products jumped 30.1% in the year leading up to July 2025.
