Loaded gun recovered after stolen vehicle boxed in by police in Vaughan

Must read

York regional police have arrested three suspects and recovered a loaded firearm after a commercial break and enter in Vaughan early Saturday morning.

Police say they were called at around 2 a.m. to the area of Kipling Avenue and Highway 7.

When officers arrived, they located a vehicle linked to the call. Police say the vehicle attempted to flee but was boxed in by four police cruisers, bringing it to a stop.

“The suspect tried to break containment but we had four police cars successfully contain the vehicle,” Duty Insp. Peter Cheung told CP24 at the scene.

There were three suspects inside the vehicle. Police say one suspect tried to run but was taken into custody nearby. Another suspect was transported to hospital. The condition of that suspect was not released.

Police say the vehicle was reported stolen.

“The vehicle is reported stolen. We’re still investigating the break and enter. Once we had the person in custody we then found a loaded firearm,” Cheung said.

York Regional Police say two police cruisers were damaged and are no longer operational following the takedown.

One of the cruisers involved was a K9 unit, but police say the dog was not injured.

The investigation is ongoing.
